Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

im 19. and made a bad decision. charged with disturbing the peace. marijuana poss. missed my court date. granted a 1 month extension. to do 30 hours of community service and 1 mothers against drunk driving class.i had also missed my extension court date. there is no excuse for not showing up. i was scared that the judge wouldnt beleive me without the hours on paper. i know. but i had my 30 hours completed and was scheduled to do my MAD class next wednesday but was picked up by 2 police officers at 8 am at my parents house and taken to county jail. where i spent 17 hours thinking and re-thinking everything i did wrong. during those hours i realized that owning up and admitting to yourself what u did wrong is the best thing. i was bailed out by my family. now i have court in 4 hours and cant sleep a wink. since the initial court date, i lost my license due to a 175$ headlight ticket. no excuse still i know.but have the 30hours completed and on hand. im trying to joing the USMC. im wondering what my best choice of words would be to my public defender. im scared.

thank you.

I think your idea is a good one. You seem like a good kid, but still immature. The USMC will fix that. Hope the judge and D.A. buy it. Ask the public defender to put the case over for just 3 days to give him a chance to talk to the D.A. privately. The idea being to drop the charges if you get accepted and can prove an induction date. Might need a written offer by D.A. to do so, to show the recruiter. You should call a relative or friend to visit a recruiter NOW and get their best info on what they would need for someone in your position to get accepted. Good luck. Oh, the other thing: the reason you missed all those deadlines and obligations was the pot. Lose it.
