1st offense of possession of an illegal substance

18 year old student arrested for possession of illegal substance. Sitting outside in a park in Fulton, CA, approached by a park ranger, ranger searched back pack that was in vehicle and found an extremely small amount of mushrooms. Booked and out on bail, appeared for arrainment and another counrt date was set because case still under investigation. What are my options. First time offense, is there an option called diversion, what does it entail.

You can determine your options only by discussing your case with an attorney and presenting all of the facts to the attorney, including the police report.

Assuming that it is only a small amount of controled substance, mushroom,and this is your first offense, you should be eligible for drug diversion. The district attorney should give you written notice of whether or not you are eligible for diversion, which is now deferred entry of judgment.
