Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

4th of July. Marina CA. Air rocket (not safe and sane approved) is fired. Police show up in bicycles. I regrettably took responsibility for the shot which was not mine. I showed the police where the rounds were. They asked where I got it from. I said "a friend got them".

I didn't even know it was the police at first. They came out of the dark, no lights, no reflectors and they never identified themselves as police and no rights were read. The fireworks were not in my posession, I took them to it. No one was actually seen shooting them off.

I want to plead innocent. Is there any way to back out of this or did I screw myself since I took responsibilty. I understand posession of fireworks was illegal too, but I merely showed them where they came from.

Next time you have an interaction with the police, keep your mouth shut. Consult a lawyer and bring the lawyer to court on your first court date. You might be charged with exploding a destructive device which carries a sentence of maybe 20 years in prison. But it's a load off your mind, knowing that you Took Responsibility, eh?

Miranda only applies to custodial interrogations, not to your voluntary statements in which you confess everything to someone who is not a priest. I agree with Mr. Stone, and suggest you get an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, ask the court to appoint a public defender.
