Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

17 year old: Explossives charge(Feb. 29th Court)

I am 17, a few weeks ago some friends and I were driving(I was a passenger) and we were pulled over. I had a bag of m-80's from a trip to Mexico, 6 months prior. The police found them in the trunk, i was charged with possession of explossives. I researched and found the punishment to be: $500-1000 fine and/or up to a year in jail(misdameanor).- but i don't know how many grams of explossive were in the bag...What kind of action should I take? -plead no contest, get a lawyer...? Thank you for your time.

You need to either hire an attorney or request that the court appoint an attorney to represent you. DO NOT PLEAD GUILTY, or in juvenile court DO NOT ADMIT THE PETITION IS TRUE. After you have consulted with an attorney and understand your defenses you will be ready to consider plea bargaining. If you were to plead guilty you would be at the mercy of the court.
