Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Last may a 19 year old male stole $200 worth of marijuana from me i have my medical marijuana card so thats not my legal concern. when I found him and tried to retrieve it he punched me in the face twice. He was arrested and I told the police he stole $40 from me. Now his lawyer wants me to sign a civil agreement staying that he stole weed from me instead. Would I be in danger of prosecution or gettin in trouble if I admit I lied to police. Is signing a civil agreement in my best interests if I would in fact like to help lower his sentence.

It is illegal to make a false police report. Your problem is that you can't testify at trial without admitting that you lied. You ought to try to negotiate the terms of the civil compromise statement in such a way that it is truthful but satisfies both parties. You may well want to consult a lawyer for a face to face discussion.
Signing the civil agreement is not in your best interest. He's trying to avoid you suing him for the battery. If you sign it, I guarantee it will be used at trial against you and places in you in sights of others.
