Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

my 16 year old son and two of his friends you-tubed them selves breaking up a plaque from the

rival high school. friend # 1 said he found it on the ground at the rival high school last april or may

2011. my son has been contacted by his high schools local police liason and by his vice principle

that his name came up in this incident . He was told that the rival high school doesn't want to press

charges but wants restitution of $1000.00 today some one claiming to be an asst proinciple at

the rival high school said that the replacing the plaque would be a $1000.00 my son admits

to breaking it with his friends but did not know the origin or value. I as the parent have not been

notified at all. my questions are; what could he be prosecuted for? how can you make a minor

pay restitution with out involving a parent or guardian.

He can be arrested for felony vandalism and will have to go through the Juvenile Justice System. Obviously your son should make no statements or admissions of guilt without consulting an attorney.
