Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
17-year-old shoplifting - first time in trouble
My 17-yr-old daughter was arrested for shoplifting. She will be 18 next month. This came on the heals of a divorce, sale of family home, etc. She has never been in trouble before. Straight A college student. They said she would be prosecuted as an adult. I put her in therapy. What should we expect? What will be the repercussions? Should I hire a lawyer?

Absolutely you need to hire an attorney. You want them to keep it in the juvenile process and show the good side of your daughter in order to advocate for a dismissal or informal diversiob.
