Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Im 18 years old and I have a police record of misdemeanors for shoplifting. Im now serious about finding a job and Im in college. However, the police record is blocking some great job opportunities for me. How long will my police record show when a background check is being done? Is there something I can do to get my record expunged?

It depends on whether you were a juvenile or not, and what the conviction was for. Insurance companies can see it, but an employer won't, once you have your juvenile record sealed. It usually takes anywhere from 6 to 10 months to have your juvenile record sealed. If you were convicted as an adult, you would have to wait until your probation is done before you can have your record expunged.
