Call the court clerk and find out what their fax number is. Then fax them a letter and attach some proof of the accident. Put in the letter the case number etc. you got witht he notice of the court date. Give the court an address and telephone to reach you. And they should reset the matter. If they don't go to the court as soon as you can with proof of the accident and medical care your required.

Victor Hobbs' suggestion may work, but it may not. The court may simply issue a warrant for your arrest if you don't show up. It would probably be better to consult with a criminal lawyer before the court date and consider hiring a lawyer. Most criminal lawyers give free consultations. If your case is in LA, you're welcome to call me for a free consultation. My telephone number is (310) 393-0639. Good luck.
