Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Being accused

My niece's boyfriend was arrested because a guy accused him of beating him up. He's PO took him into custody. Her boyfriend's boss has his employment time stamp card showing he was at work at the time they said this guy was beaten up. His PO said he would automatically get held for 30days. When his mother sent him some money they said he would only get half of it and the other half would go to restitution. She doesn't understand (nor do I) what restitution their talking about. She has tried numerous time call his PO but she never returns her calls. Is there anything or anyone she can go to besides the PO?

Thank you for any help

Re: Being accused

Almost always the parolee has unpaid restitution fines, fees etc...mandatory fines that the Court imposes at sentencing. PO can hold for just about any reason...by the time it is fought the 30 day hold is over, so, he is probably stuck. Once the money is put on an inmates books the state can seize some portion of it for the unpaid fees...
