Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

active warrants

I was arrested for sale and possession of marijuana in 1996. I now live back in NY and want to continue my life and take care of this charge. I have been stopped by police here in NY and cali. always says they do not wish to extradite me. If they decline extradition numerous times over a period of years do they ever drop the warrant? if not how can i resolve this matter without going from NY all the way back to san francisco??

Re: active warrants

Simply put, you can either come back to SF and face the music, at best making a bunch of court appearances, or continue to live life as you know it in NY.

Re: active warrants

Best thing to do is to hire a lawyer to ascertain the status of the case; make an appearance for you (you don't have to show up for that), clear the warrant and enter a not guilty plea. Then you can decide between trial or a plea and probation, or other condition, since you're in New York. Good luck.
