Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Adult Child Resolution Needed

Adult Child (age 19) who is developmentally delayed and functions as early teen currently. Ran away and now is claiming will call the cops if we don't give them their stuff. Do we have a right to keep the things we have bought or should we just give in and let it go. It has only been 4 days and the cops are already being mentioned. This child is volatile and mental health issues are present but can't make her go to counseling or listen to us, obviously so we are asking from a legal standpoint if we have any rights you can share.

The rights to the child's property as between you and the child are more of a civil/family law matter and not so much a criminal one. The police are 'theoretically' responsible for criminal activity alone. I doubt the police would respond to a call from your child given that the property is located at her former residence, you did not forcibly or physically remove the property from her, her former residence is her parents' home and the parents bought most if not all of the claimed belongings.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over her calling the police.

I highly doubt the police would get involved as there is no crime involved. You bought all the stuff and did not steal it from the kid.
