Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
I am under the age of 21 and recently recieved a marijuana possesion ticket in California. I have my medical marijuana perscription, what steps should I take next to minimize the damage on my record? Is my liscense likely to be suspended? Because that would absolutely ruin my current schooling and jobs.
1 Answer from Attorneys
With respect to your driver's license, it is going to depend on what the circumstances were when you were given a ticket, and whether your license was taken away then. Those matters are handled in administrative hearings with the Department of Motor Vehicles. If that has happened, I suggest you ask for a hearing if you were given notice when your license was taken away, as time is of the essence in that matter.
With respect to the ticket, I suggest you get an attorney as soon as possible. If you cannot afford an attorney, you can ask the court to appoint a public defender. You will want to discuss and provide evidence of your medical marijuana prescription with that attorney.
