No, you can't just call the court and tell them you live somewhere else. If you don't go to court, the judge will issue a warrant for your arrest.
Let your lawyer -- whether it's a public defender or an attorney you're hired yourself -- know about your situation. Depending on your charges, your attorney may be able to make some court appearances on your behalf... but you will probably have to come back to appear for at least some of your court dates.
The case will not be moved to your home state. You're charged with violating a California law and, presumably, were in California at the time of the alleged violation. The witnesses, the victim and the police officers are probably all here. There is no reason they should all be inconvenienced by traveling to where you live. There is also no reason why a prosecutor, defense attorney and judge in your state should have to learn the pertinent California law, or why the taxpayers of your state should pay them to do so.
