Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
arraignment
I have hired an attorney. Is it true that I do not have to be present for the arraignment?

Re: arraignment
If it is a misdemeanor, the attorney can appear for you unless it is a domestic violence case or if you are ordered to appear by the judge.
If it's a a felony, you must be there.
Verify this with the attorney you paid. They realy should have explained this to you.

Re: arraignment
You should ask your attorney. You not knowing or believing him is concerning as an attorney. For a misdemeanor, you can have an attorney appear for you, without the need for your presence. On a Felony, you MUST be present.
