If you did not appear in court immediately after your arrest, and you did not have to post bail, you were likely released on your own recognizance. That means, they let you out on the 'honor system' that you promised to appear at your next court date. At your next court date, you will be arraigned. This means you will be asked to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty to the charges filed against you. My guess is that the charges filed against you will be grand theft or embezzlement and it will likely be a felony. From there, you will either be assigned a public defender or you can hire a private lawyer ahead of time. Make sure you tell your attorney you want to attend your sister's wedding out of the county to get special permission to do this. Technically, you might not need to since you are not out on bail, but just to be on the safe side it is a good idea. If theft charges are brought against you and you are convicted, this will have huge implications for future employment prospects. I strongly encourage you to hire a criminal defense attorney. We are not in your area, but if you want help finding one, feel free to call our office.

Best of Luck!
