Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I have an arrest warrant for an unknown charge

Please help - in 1990 I plead no contest to a misdemeanor embezzlement charge. I was sentenced to 60 days, which I served. I also was given a restitution to pay back, of which I have paid a portion but not all. My probationary period expired many years ago. Today I received a letter from my local police department advising me that I have an arrest warrant issued to me regarding this case. The warrant does not say what the reason / charges are. The original amount was $4,800, but I have paid over half of that down over the years. The bail is $7,500.00. This happened 16 years ago - why are they coming back for me now?

Re: I have an arrest warrant for an unknown charge

Your failure to pay restitution resulted in a violation of probation. At some point in time the violation of probation was reported to the court and a warrant was issued. The police finally notified you of the existance of the warrant. You should contact an attorney regarding this matter. If you do not have the funds to retain an attorney, contact the public defender and request representation. If the public defender will not assigne you an attorney then contact the police and arrange to self surrender. Having the money to pay the remainder of the restitution would be helpful to get you in getting the matter resolved quickly.
