Sure, if there's evidence of other crimes in the police report and the D.A's office decides to charge.

Ms. Hofmeister is right. There is no rule that forbids the government to add new charges (so long as the evidence supports them, the limitations period has not expired, etc.). Such a rule would not serve the interests of justice.
