Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I was arrested at wal mart for petty theft, i am wondering what will happen on my court date, i have one prior about ten years ago but alot of drug offenses, what should i do? Should i try and talk to a public defender and see what he thinks they will do, or get a lawer, which i do not have the money.

This all really depends on the amount of goods that were stolen from Walmart. That fact that you have prior Petty Theft charges and the drug offenses makes your case a little more difficult. I always recomend having an attorney, whether a public defender or preferably a private attorney.
