Most judges will allow at least a 2 week continuance for you to get an attorney. When your case is called, simply tell the judge that you want some time to get an attorney, and the judge should give you a new court date. If you would like to discuss your case, even today, I'd be happy to offer a free consultation. (800) 458-1488.

Just go to court tomorrow and tell the judge you'd like a continuance of 30 days in order to get a lawyer. The judge should give you at least 2 weeks, and maybe more. Good luck. If your case is in Los Angeles, don't hesitate to call me for a free consultation. Steve Mandell (310) 393 0639

Thanks for your posting. Most judges will allow you a short continuance if you want to consult with an attorney. Your attorney may be able to go back to court without you having to be there, also.

You should be able to do that without a problem. If for some reason (worst case scenario) the judge wants to move the case along, he or she might appoint the public defender and allow your attorney to substitute in later.

Most courts will allow you a continance in order to seek counsel (especially if it is your first appearance). You should obtain an attorney. If you cannot afford one, let the judge know and he may appoint a public defendant for you. If you fax me at 714 363-0229 any documentation you have, I will be glad to provide you with free consultation.
