Re: Assault or Battery
Crimes are prosecuted by the government, not by the victims. Tell the police what happened and the assailant may be charged with a crime. Unfortunately, the delay in reporting the assault may hinder the police investigation. An incomplete investigation, in turn, may lead the prosecutor to reject the case.
If you want to sue the girl's family and/or the school (nothing you have said suggests that the school is liable, but it might be depending upon what happened), you will need a personal injury lawyer.
Keep in mind that lawyers will only want a case like this if they expect to be paid. Unless the other girl's family has assets, you will have a hard time finding a lawyer who will accept the case on a contingent fee basis.
