Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

assault

Me and my brother in law were in a bit of an argument with the boyfriend of our cousin. He is 20 years old and our cousin is 14 years old. We were arguing not only because he is much older then here, and we feel as if he is manipulating here to sleep with him. But because he was saying very rude things about my wife. We were out there arguing when my brother in law went to push him away from because he felt threatened that he was to close and hit him in the face because he is much shorter then him. It was a hit, but it was not a big one. The next day, they arrested him for assault with a deadly weapon his fist. I bailed him out, his court day is at the end of the month. Now I dont know what we should do. Should we turn him in for being with a minor, or leave it all alone, and whats going to happen to my brother in law?

Re: assault

Your brother in law should get an attorney or, if he can't afford that, he should ask for the public defender. He'll be able to work out a better deal with an attorney than without one.

Why aren't her parents stopping the relationship between the 14-year old and the 20-year old? There's a chance that the parents could lose her because they aren't protecting her.
