Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Assaulted and Mentally Tortured

I was physically assaulted and mentally tortured for 16 hrs by a person whom I had recently dated. This person stole my entire paycheck, cell phone and my drivers license and assured me If i reported there would be terrible consequences. I am terrified for my family and my safety as this person admitted to have done undescribable things to others in the past and is a ''second striker'' already. I do have physical marks on my body which i have already photographed ex, black eyes, bite marks, scratches, etc. I do not know if first if i need to report this in the city in which it happeded in or can i report it in the city in which i reside in? Second, just from my description of events what charges could they charged with the maximum punishments for those crimes? Last but not least is there any place I could call to try and get some sort of assistance with relocating so that I may report this. BECAUSE I DO NO THINK I WILL REPORT THIS UNLESS I AM ABLE TO RELOCATE. AND I AM NOT THE FIRST PERSON TO BE VICTIMIZED BY THIS PERSON.

Re: Assaulted and Mentally Tortured

As Mr. Stone stated you can either stand up and report this conduct. Then obtain a restraining order to protect yourself, your friends and family. The conduct you described could result in a prison sentence. Also if you come forward others may gain the courage to come forward and stop this menace.

Re: Assaulted and Mentally Tortured

We get variations on this question a lot. You either have to stop being a victim and go to the police, or else keep on being a victim. Your move.

You could try your local battered intimate partner hotline or shelter, although you are unlikely to get much help unless you are a woman.
