what if the public defender failed to provide info about the misdameanor turning into a felony?

If I understand you correctly . . . if you think your lawyer screwed up or otherwise did not live up to his responsibilities, and the case is ongoing, your only remedy is to get another lawyer. No dismissal of your case (no effect on the case whatsoever) just because PD failed to inform you of something.
