Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

How much should an attorney be paid to represent a client on 4 charges that has been stalled out for a year? Already paid 10,000 and he now wants 10,000 more to go to jury trial.

It depends on the charges and complexity of the case. It might be a little high for a DUI, but it is really low for a murder trial.

Your attorney is required to give you a written fee agreement before taking your money. This kind of arrangement, with a flat fee plus additional fees for trial, is not uncommon among criminal defense attorneys.

I agree with Mr. Marshall. High for jaywalking, low for murder. It depends on the complexity of the case and the nature of the charges. It also depends on whether you panicked and retained somebody who charges $500 an hour who is doing the same job someone else could do for a lot less.
