do i need my own attorney?

two years ago i was arrested in a drunken rage in santa clara county california.i have been sober now for 1 year and must face this problem.my charges were pretty serious for such a stupid situation.the charges are 148A 647F 594A/B all misdemeanors with no priors for these offences.can i trust a public deffender on this one?ive got kids i need to raise,and i cant do that from jail.

Santa Clara County Public Defenders are generally very competent. However they have a disadvantage to a private attorney, they have a large case load that does not allow them to devote much time to each case.

A private attorney would have more time in which to investigate your case and discuss the case with you.
