Background Check

I was caught shoplifting and was assigned a court date. On the day of my court date I was informed that my case was dropped due to insufficient evidence. It has been a little over a year and I have never been contacted again. I am curious what my current criminal records will show if I was to get a background check. I was never officially convicted nor did I ever appear in court. If there is something on my record, is it possible to get it removed and how would I go about doing so. Thanks!

Although you were not convicted, there are commercial databases (theft indexes) of persons caught shoplifting. The term "background check" does not have any generally agreed-upon meaning. Best guess, this incident won't show up anywhere unless you are applying for a govt. security clearance, or for employment in the retail sector.

You could have a "background check" run on yourself, say through choicepoint, this might help your peace of mind. Go and sin no more.
