Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

battery charge p242

My bfs wife (they have been seperated for yrs but not legally divorced) came to my house to fight me. I closed the door and now she accused me of slamming the door on her hand,I am being charged with battery p242 and have a hearing on July 10th, the police never contacted me. I closed the door to prevent bodily harm, should I be worried?

Well, yes, you should be worried. These days, even an infraction conviction or just an arrest without conviction have serious consequences to career, reputation, social, credit, insurance, child custody, professional licensing and other aspects of your life. You should not accept any conviction if you are not guilty.

It is tempting to save money and take a deal, as long as there is no jail time, but these days that is a foolish move. Fight it and when you have won, petition the court for a finding of factual innocence to completely clear your name and your record.
