Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

battery

A person hit me in the face first and I responded in self defense. A friend of mine also helped by splitting up the fight. The other person initiated the arguement and began the fight. The sheriffs arrested us(my friend and I) and the other person infomred us that they were placing us under citizen's arrest. I was charged with battery. How should I plead? I want to plead self defense. I also asked if I could press charges on the other person and was told that I could not. Is there any way to still do this if it has been 2 days? What possible punishements could i receive?

Re: battery

Of course you can press charges for assault and battery against the person who hit you. I recommend that you do so immediately. You may also consider a civil action for battery against him. Plead not guilty to the charges and hire an attorney. If you're in Los Angeles, call my office. Good luck.

Re: battery

You do not want a battery on your record. Get reprensented immediately, a good attorney can get this reduced to a disturbing the peace infraction with less than a $ 150.00 fine. Of course plead Not Guilty. Call me directly at 16192223504.
