Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Am I blackmailing this husband?
I was chatting online with a man who claimed to be single. After setting up a hotel room to meet at, he told me he was married and wants to make sure I will not tell his wife, since I also know where he lives. I've been cheated on before and I know it's awful so I told him that I was going to tell his wife. I did NOT demand any money, but he offered me $2000 as ''hush money''. I have a child and REALLY need the money. Since I made no demands, is it legal for me to accept the money?

I concur. If he wants to meet in a seedy motel room, he's probably not quality enough to want to bring around your child anyway.
Wash your hands of him and be done.
Re: Am I blackmailing this husband?
You made no demands, but you made a threat.
You have a child, and for the safety of that child, and yourself, you really need to stop agreeing to meet men you don't know in cheap hotel rooms.
I'm guessing you suspected he was married. Why else would he take you to a hotel?
Don't take the money, and run.
