Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

What is book and release? And should lawyer be present?

First time ever in trouble with the law. Have to go to a book and release. Please tell me what the process is and should be. Also, how long should it last and should I have lawyer there?

Can I reschedule it?

Re: What is book and release? And should lawyer be present?

You will be told on what charges you were arrested and will be ordered to reappear on a certain date. You will likely be released on your own recognizance meaning you will not have to post bail. When you appear, you will be told what charges will be filed against you if any. While you don't necessarily have to have a lawyer when you are booked, it is always advisable to have one especially when it comes time to make your first appearance.

Don't wait to be charged to get a lawyer. Hire one as soon as possible since sometimes, depending on the underlying alleged offense, arrangements can be made so that charges are never brought.

Feel free to contact us if serious about doing so.
