Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
My old boss owes me money from work I did. He moved out of the office where he used to be, so, he figured he would just not pay me since I don't know where to find him. I had copies of his accounting files and I threatened him to send his files to the IRS if he doesn't pay me what he owes me. Is that illegal to do?

Yes. It's called extortion.
Your old boss might threaten to report you to the police if you don't drop your claim. If he does, he will also be committing extortion.
Even if I had more facts, I could not reliably predict what the authorities would do in a situation like this. But if your boss tries to extort you, he may realize that turning around and reporting you for trying to extort him would be unwise.
I agree with Mr. Hoffman. Extortion is not going to help you. I suggest that you speak to an attorney familiar with labor law, regarding a lawsuit for the money owed you, and possible penalties under the labor law.
