Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Hi there. Sorry to bother you with a question I shouldn't be asking but I've been issued a citation for 484(a) PC. Stolen property cost less than $25- also I did not enter the store with intent- bought other items and had enough money on my person to purchase the items I attempted to steal. Hiring someone to defend me is out of the question. This is my first offense, I am 19 years old. What, in your opinion, would be the best course of action for me to take?
Thank you.

Your best bet is to get a public defender and follow his or her advice.
DO NOT PLEAD GUILTY. It's called a petty theft, but is anything but petty, with regards to your future where employment and colleges are important to most people your age. Get the public defender to get you an infraction for trespassing...a 602 j of the penal code, if possible. Good luck..Dave Wallin
