my boyfriend is being carged with PC 496D

(A). he borrowed a vehicle from someone that gave him the key. he had it not 10 mins and was stopped by the police. we then found out it had been stolen two days prior. the person who let him "borrow" it, knowing let him borrow a stolen vehicle. the person is now avoiding law enforcement that is trying to verify my boyfriends story. he has a prior taking vehicle without owners consent in 2005 and a petty theft in 2008. how much time is he looking at? and would my telling the DA what I knew be at all beneficial to him?

Your boyfriend needs a lawyer right away. If he can't afford to hire one, he should get a public defender. Do not talk to the D.A.; she is not your boyfriend's ally. Talk to his lawyer instead.
