Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
My ex boyfriend used trick to mislead me to sign off a personal loan.He wanted to build up his own business.In fact,there wasn't any business plan.He gambled away my money instead of making any investment.
He had all the intention to deceive me to believe the business plan was a viable one.is this case a criminal one?The police didn't think so.They refused to handle my complaint.what can I do?

In order for there to be a criminal prosecution, there would have to be very compelling evidence that he intended to defraud you AT THE TIME the money was given. Otherwise, it is in fact a purely civil dispute.
Absent such evidence, I understand why the police aren't acting.
Even if they wrote up a report, it doesn't sound like the DA would pick this case up as a criminal case.
Sorry. It sounds as though your recourse is to sue and hope to collect on the judgment.
