Most California prisoners can still receive packages, my understanding is the rules have tightened somewhat (they were near-impossible to begin with, chances are the correctional officers will confiscate half the items on whatever pretext). Check with the visiting lieutenant or the inmate's correctional counselor for a copy of that institution's exact rules. Prisoners may file lawsuits (such as divorces) and can apply for filing fee waivers. Prisoners may marry with the permission of the warden.

Prisoners though incarcerated still have thr right to recieve mail (no contraband). Prisoners still have the right to use the legal process in a non frivolous manner to obtain divorces etc.

I am not sure how issues regarding court appearances should they be necessary are dealt with.

You should address the proofs of service to you at the prison in as much detail as possible so that they get to you as quickly as possiblr.
