Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
I would like to know if I have a case of larceny.
I went into a convenient store to buy hotdogs. I picked up the hotdog because the advertisment indicated that they were .79 cents. I altered one of the hotdogs and left the other one plain and untouched. When I went to purchase the hotdogs, including two other items, I was given a different prices for the hotdogs (1.39) Because I didn't have enough change, I told the clerk that I would be putting the hotdog back that I didn't alter. She told me to put back one of the other items, I told her that because the hotdogs was not the price that was indicated then I didn't want it. She agreed I gave her the money, and she turn around and said that I would be paying for all of the items. Is that larceny

No, it doesn't sound like theft from what you wrote. Theft requires that a person have the intent to permanently deprive the owner of the property at the time you took it.
It sounds at least like attempted larceny by trick.
