Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Cash Bail Forfeited

I posted a cash bail for a friend. He had an initial court date of 2/11/05 and a subsequent court date after that for which he appeared. I was told that after he appeared on 2/11 the bail would be returned in 4 to 6 weeks and so on 4/21 I went to the court to find out where the money was an they told me that it had been forfeited. He failed to appear on 4/5/05 and the court forfeited the bail. I went from the court to his place of employment and told him to go back to court; he went on 4/26 and was placed in custody. From my reading of 1300-1309 I should be able to get my bail back if he appears within 180 days of forfeiture, is this true? What do I need to do to get my money back?

Re: Cash Bail Forfeited

Sounds like your friend doesn't care much for his case or your money. I would try to make a motion with the court to reinstate the bail, exonerate it because your friend is in custody and then have the bail returned.
