Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I was caught by LP shoplifting $210 worth of clothing with a tool at Macy's.

Police arrested me and cited me for PC 459 and PC 466. This was the first time I had done anything like this, and I have no criminal record. I had the tool on me when I entered the store, but in all honesty, didn't form the intent to take the items until I saw them in the store (I know this is will be next to impossible to prove).

I offered to supply information about where I bought the tools, but not sure where/when I could offer it.

Since this is my first offense, what kind of consequences am I looking at? Is a pretrial diversion possible? Or any other options that may reduce my charges?

If you care about your future, get a qualified attorney to represent you and attempt to get the best disposition possible. You're looking at burglary charges and the consequenses of a conviction are HUGE. Try and get a good job and you'll see, with a conviction for this offense, how difficult it is. Perhaps a highly qualified attorney can get you a diversion...but it will not be easy. I wish you well, and if you want to speak to me on the phone, you may call me at 661-2671313. David Wallin
