Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

A cell phone was stolen from me a month ago and was actived by them. I found the person who stole it and got it back. The person when to the police and said I stole it from them. There mother was informed when the phone was stolen from and will tell the police. What should I do to so the the police won't mess with me?

Um, maybe you could find the receipt from when you originally purchased the phone? Or the original packaging? If you were to be criminally charged for re-stealing your phone, your lawyer could subpoena the records from your cellular carrier which would show the electronic serial numbers (ESN) of the phones in use on certain dates. Do not talk to the police, and by that I mean Do Not Talk To The Police.
