Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I was charged with possession of a controlled substance a while back and didnt appear to the court date so i had a warrant and was arrested for it but got released and given a new court date i went and was given another court date but pleaded not guilty but missed the next court date and now still have a warrant for this but wanted to get my name clean because i now have a son but i dont know how to go about it and was worried i might get jail time but wasnt to sure what would happen but i am no longer living the way i was before and now am taking care of my son alone and dont want to have to worry about going to jail and not now who would be able to take care of my son. So i just wanted to know what i could do and what might be the posible sentence to this charge or if jail time how long.

Failing to appear in court always causes problems. An appearance needs to be made as soon as possible, before you are picked up.If the case is just simple possession the sentence might not be that bad.

Until you (or your attorney) appears, the warrant will remain, subjecting you to being arrested upon any police contact.

Simple possession is now a misdemeanor and if you are a first offender, you should be eligible for diversion of some sort.

Get a lawyer and discuss your options, but don't wait until you're arrested - be proactive. You've already had 2 failure to appears - don't make it three.
