Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Charges dropped

If I have pressed charges agains someone and in turn they did the same to me, if I were to drop the charges before their court date, will it reflect badly and cause me to have a severe punishment when I go to court? Will I be accused of perjury regarding the charges that I had dropped about the other person and be punished for that too if I do drop his? I mean the only reason I want his dropped is because I don't want him to do jail time, even though he deserves it.

Re: Charges dropped

First individuals do not press charges against a person. The state does that throught the district attorney's office in each of the counties. You have not power over whether or not the district attorney will file a criminal complaint and prosecute it. You should be discussing this matter with an attorney.
