Civil Courts vs Criminal Courts
How can a person be found not guilty of a crime in criminal court but then be found guilty for what is essentially the same act in civil court?

This can occur because of the difference in the standard of proof required. In criminal court the people must prove beyond a reasonable doubt to a moral certainty in a criminal case. In a civil case the standard of proof is by a preponderance of the evidence. That is 51%.
