Class of Charge
Is domestic battery a felony, and if it is, what class, in the state of California?

California doesn't have "classes" of felonies, as other courts do. Domestic violence can be charged as a misdemeanor, or felony, depending on whether or not there was "great bodily injury".
As a result, the answer to your question really depends upon the injuries involved.
