Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Okay, so i collected unemployment benefits for about a year or so after I found a part time job. I was receving unemployment benefits from cali but living in another state.. This all took place about 5 years ago and I never received any information about it from unemployment office. I am now applying for a job that conducts thourough background checks and was wondering if they will be able to look into this? Or is there anything wrong about this since i was only working part-time position? When filling out job history portion of application, i know that they will see that unemployment overlaps with the job that i received while unemployed. Any help with this? Any suggestions?

You have a duty to inform EDD when you get a job. However under some circumstances it is possible to have a job and concurrently receive unemployment insurance. Therefore the fact that you received unemployment insurance at the same time that you were employed part time should not set off any bells. As long as you were not charged with unemployment insurance fraud the employer should not find any negative information to put on your record.
