would a defendant have any rights after being sentenced to 45 yrs to life by a commisioner who was later found to have lied about his credentials and was fired from the court system?

Maybe, but I would need to know more about the facts. For example, if someone else handled the trial and if the commissioner handed down the most lenient sentence available, there would be nothing to gain by challenging the sentence.

You should consult directly about this case with a lawyer. Depending upon the circumstances, this defendant may have a strong habeas corpus case.
