Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

community service

I was sentenced to community service and anger management classes for a misdemeanor domestic violence charge. Can I request to pay a fine instead of doing the community service and if so, who do I contact to make that arrangement?

Re: community service

You contact your lawyer.

If you did not have one, I suppose you could contact the clerk at the courtroom where you were sentenced. Perhaps he/she could facilitate making a pitch to the judge or at the very least tell you what you need to do.

You might be able to convert community service to a fine but I would make any such attempt well in advance of any completion deadline. As far as anger management - they are required by statute so it looks like you are stuck with that requirement.

By the way, if you are not a US citizen this conviction will create serious problems for you.
