Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Confidental Informant subpeona by DA?
I helped the bail bonds people find someone for whom I had signed to bail out of jail. I did this so I wasn't stuck for $250,000 because this person told he they were leaving the country.
I was assured that the person would not know who the informant was. When the bail people picked him up, there was a gun in the car he was driving. I know who's car it was and I know the gun belonged to them because they called me after the arrest trying to get their gun back! I am also certain that the driver, the person arrested, was unaware of the gun.
I just received a subpeona from the District Attorney in the gun case. Aren't they supposed to keep my identity secret unless compelled to release it? If they had been ordered to inform the defense of my name would it be the DA who subpeona's me?

Re: Confidental Informant subpeona by DA?
Why do you think the owner got your name from the bail bondsmen? The fact that you posted the bond must be a matter of record, and the fact that the gun was found when "the bail people picked him up" makes you a logical person to call. It should have been a simple matter for the owner to learn from public records who had posted the bond; after that it was just a matter of finding your phone number.
