Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

How can I convic a burgler?

My home was burglarized on 11-07-05. I know who did it. She trurned herself in, but got an attorney. She is negotiating a plea. What can I do to make her get the maximum time possible.

Unfortunately, you cannot do anything to "ensure" that this person gets the "maximum" penalty under the law. This is strictly between the prosecutor and defense attorney's plea bargain agreement, if accepted by the Court. If no plea bargain is reached, and the case moves forward to trial, the prosecutor may call you as a witness if relevant under the overall circumstances involved. However, even though you have little or no control over the criminal case herein, you DO have standing to sue in civil court for any damages/losses/harm you have suffered caused by this individual. You have the right to appear in court and give a victim's statement to the court. Contact the district attorney and request to be notified of the sentencing hearing. Also request that you receive reimbursement for your damages. You will need to provide some proof of the tamages to the court to support your claim.
