Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Conviction
I am applying to the Council of Legal Education Opportunity Program, (CLEO). The application asks if I have any convictions. Ten years ago I was arrested for possession of marijuana, but completed a diversion program and this is now off my record. How should I answer this question? I've had a clean record since. I plan on attending law school in the future. Thank you so much.

Re: Conviction
Technically there was not a conviction. The diversion program provided that criminal proceeding were put on hold, pending your completion of the drug program. Upon completion of the drug program the complaint is dismissed. Thus you were arrested, but not convicted.
